North Side Learning Center is Poised for Growth!

Dr. Yusuf Soule, NSLC President , is pleased to announce that North Side Learning Center (NSLC) now has full time professional staffing for the first time in the organization’s history. He said, “Since our founding in 2009, the NSLC has provided an incredible amount of service, and has earned great respect and credibility throughout the community.” This work has been accomplished through the dedication of hundreds of volunteers and a committed and hardworking board of directors.

After a thorough search and comprehensive interview process, Mark Cass has been appointed as the Executive Director of the organization. His role will be to expand both the quantity and quality of services which the organization provides to newcomers to Syracuse at its center at 501 Park Street in Syracuse, New York. The NSLC currently serves well over 200 students each year – providing English Language instruction to adults, and supporting their children’s academic development.

Mark has extensive experience in the literacy field, nonprofit management and fundraising, and in program development. Cass said “Working under the leadership and direction of Yusuf Soule, and terrific board members, the organization has accomplished much in its short history. We expect not only sustainability, but significant growth in the range and number of services we provide to newcomers to Syracuse.”

This has been made possible through very generous joint funding from the Allyn Foundation and Reisman Foundation.

It is an exciting time in the development of the North Side Learning Center, and it comes at a challenging time in our community’s – and country’s – history.
